Internal Transport
Internal flights across Zambia are quite good, with charter companies operating to destinations such as Chipata, Kasaba Bay, Kasama, Kitwe, Livingstone, Lusaka, Mangu, Mfuwe, Ndola and Victoria Falls. There are also over 120 other airports, aerodromes and airstrips in the country.
There are three main train lines: from Lusaka to the Copperbelt; from Livingstone to Lusaka and from Kapiri Mposhi to the Northern border with Tanzania. There is first- and second-class accommodation and light refreshments are available on some services.
Zambia has a fairly good road network, though dilapidated in parts. There are several car hire firms operating in main centres; chauffeur-driven cars are also available. The bus and coach network has been much improved over the last few years, offering clean, cheap and frequent services. Some however, such as the coach linking Lusaka with Livingstone, Chipata, Ndola and Mongu, should be booked well in advance.
Transport within Lusaka itself is provided by shared taxis and somewhat basic minibuses. Taxis are not metered and fares should be negotiated in advance.
