Parts of Uganda should be considered off-limits due to a highly volatile security situation. Rebels in the north are responsible for many crimes against civilians. Ethnic conflict and banditry are common irritants in the northeastern Karamoja region and in neighbouring Katakwi district.
Areas to be avoided are:
- The districts of Kitgum, Pader, Adjumani, Gulu, Apac and Lira in Northern Uganda
- West Nile (Nebbi, Arua, Moyo and Yumbe districts in Uganda's far north west)
- Karamoja (Kotido, Moroto, Nakapiripirit and Katakwi Districts) in the north east
- Bundibugyo District in western Uganda
- Kisoro District in south western Uganda
- Murchison Falls National Park
Anyone planning to visit this south-west corner of Uganda, including the National Parks, should exercise caution and seek local advice before embarking on their journey. Kidepo National Park should only be visited by air, not by road.
