Local Media

A number of international news organizations, including Reuters, Associated Press, Agence France Press, Bloomberg, Dow Jones Newswires, CNN and the BBC, all have a presence in Dubai Media City, and enjoy complete freedom to report on local and regional events. However, local media operate under a number of restrictions, and are strictly forbidden from criticizing the royal family.

The leading English-language newspapers in the UAE are:

  • Gulf News, the highest circulating broadsheet
  • The Emirates Evening Post, the only English afternoon daily
  • 7 Days, the highest circulating tabloid
  • Khaleej Times, the second-highest circulating broadsheet
  • Emirates Today, a government-owned newspaper

Arabic language papers include Akhbar Al Arab, Al Bayan, Al Ittihad and Al Khaleej.

There are a number of television networks available, including:

  • Abu Dhabi TV
  • Ajman TV
  • Emirates Dubai TV
  • MBC (Dubai-based pan-Arab broadcaster)
  • Al-Arabiya (news channel operated by MBC)
  • Sharjah TV

Radio stations include:

  • Al-Arabya FM
  • Abu Dhabi Radio
  • City FM (English and Urdu)
  • Dubai 92 (English-language)
  • Dubai 93.9 (Arabic-language)
  • Radio Asia (broadcasts in Hindi, Urdu and Malayalam)
  • Ras al Khaimah Radio
