Local Media
Although the Tunisian constitution guarantees freedom of opinion and expression, the government tightly controls broadcasting and the press, and Internet monitoring is prevalent, with websites that criticise the government often blocked.
Newpapers are typically published in French or Arabic, with La Presse and Al-Horria owned by the ruling RCD party. Other papers include Assabah, Le Quotidien and Nouvelles de Tunisie.
The state-run Tunisian Radio and Television Establishment (ERTT) operates two national TV channels (Tunis 7 and Canal 21) and several radio networks (Tunisian Radio). Hannibal TV is Tunisia's first private television station, and broadcasts terrestrially and via satellite.
