Culture & Etiquette
Shaking hands on meeting and departure is customary. Visitors will be treated with great courtesy. Syrian hospitality is legendary. A gift or souvenir from the visitor's home will be well received.
Conservative casual clothes are suitable, but beachwear or shorts should only be worn at the beach or poolside. Respect local customs and sensitivities at all times, especially during the holy month of Ramadan and when visiting religious sites.
Photography near military and many other government installations is prohibited. It is worth noting that these zones are not always marked, and so it's a good idea to limit photography to traditional tourist sites.
