Local staples in the Sudan are:

  • ful mudamis (stewed brown beans)
  • fasooliyya (stewed white beans)
  • dura (cooked maize or millet)
  • kibda (liver)
  • sheya (charcoal barbecued meat)
  • kalawi (chopped kidney)
  • chawarma (lamb sliced fresh from a roasting spit)

Alcohol is banned.
