Local Media

Other than the weekly Somaliland Times, there are no English-language newspapers in Somalia. Local language papers include:

  • Ayaamaha (Mogadishu)
  • Codka Xoriyadda (Mogadishu)
  • Jamhuuriya (Somaliland)
  • Mandeeq (Somaliland)
  • Qaran (Mogadishu)
  • Xog-Ogaal (Mogadishu)

There are a number of television broadcasters, such as:

  • HornAfrik TV (rebroadcasts Al-Jazeera and CNN)
  • SBC - Somali Broadcasting Corporation (Puntland)
  • STN - Somali Telemedia Network (rebroadcasts Al-Jazeera and CNN)
  • SLNTV - Somaliland National TV (owned by Somaliland government)

Many people listen to Somali-language radio based abroad, such as the BBC Somali service. There are around 20 radio stations based in Somalia, but no national, domestic broadcaster.

  • Holy Koran Radio (FM station based in Mogadishu)
  • Radio Banaadir (FM station based in Mogadishu)
  • Radio Galkayo (Puntland)
  • Radio Hargeisa (FM and shortwave station owned by Somaliland government)
  • Radio HornAfrik (FM station, rebroadcasts BBC)
  • Radio Mogadishu (FM station operated by transitional government)
  • Radio Shabelle (FM station based in Mogadishu)
  • SBC Radio (Puntland)
  • Voice of Peace (Puntland)
