Weather
The weather in Singapore is hot and humid all year. Temperatures are steady all year round (average of 26-27°C), with a minimum of 24°C and a maximum of 31°C. There is no distinct wet/dry season, with at least 16 cm of rain falling each month. However, most rain falls during the northeast monsoon (November to January) when monthly precipitation can reach 25 cm. Showers are usually sudden and heavy.

Festivals
With such diverse cultures over a relatively small area, travellers are almost certain to encounter a festival or two, as many occur throughout the year. The Chinese community celebrate the Chinese New Year In January/February, when operas and dragon dance troupes perform in the streets. In February, entranced penitents walk three kilometres in the Hindu festival of Thaipusam. Vesak Day commemorates the Buddha's birth in May/June, whilst June, July and August sees arts festivals, a Dragon Boat festival, and the Festival of the Hungry Ghosts. On August 9, Singapore celebrates the anniversary of its independence with a series of events, including the National Day Parade which is the main ceremony.
