Culture & Etiquette

The Seychelles had been so remote that a unique culture and language developed. The international airport, providing easy access to the islands for the first time, only opened in 1971.

A simple and unsophisticated way of life is followed on the island, creating an unspoilt charm, and this is carefully protected. The locals are hospitable people, welcoming of guests and gifts. Casual wear is normal (only churchgoers dress formally), but beachwear should be kept to the beach.

Imperial and metric weights and measures are used.
