Culture & Etiquette
Senegal is the most French-influenced country in West Africa. French remains the common business language, but it would also be courteous to learn at least a few words of Wolof or other local language, such as 'hello', 'thank you' and so on.
When visiting a village, it is polite to call upon the village leader or schoolteacher to explain that you want to visit the area or spend the night there. They will often act as interpreter and will be helpful guides to village customs. Return hospitality with a gift of medicines, food or money for the community.
