Getting There & Getting About

International Airports

Internal Transport

There are no regular scheduled domestic flights; however, chartered planes are available - if somewhat expensive.

There are limited car hire facilities in Rwanda, and although there are no international car hire firms, visitors can use local companies in Kigali. However, the road network is fairly sparse and driving is not generally recommended. Many roads are in poor condition, and there can be landslides on some of the major roads during annual rainfall in spring and autumn. Visitors are advised to exercise extreme caution. Fuel is expensive.

The principal form of public transport in the country is the share taxi, with express routes linking the major cities and local services serving most villages along the main roads of the country. Coach services are available to various destinations in neighbouring countries.

Private taxis are available in Kigali and other large towns. Tipping is not expected, but fares should be agreed in advance.
