Weather

The weather in Paraguay is tropical in the north-west, with hot summers, warm winters and rainfall up to 125 cm. In the south-east, it is temperate, with rainfall up to 175 cm. The temperature at Asuncion ranges from 12°C in winter (June to September) to 35°C in summer (December to March). In general, summers are hot, with heavy rainfall, whilst winters are mild, with few cold days.

Visitors are advised to bring warm clothes for spring and autumn, medium-weights for winter, and lightweight cottons and linens for summer. Rainwear is recommended throughout the year.

Festivals

The Verbena de San Juan, held in June is a traditional fiesta that includes walking on hot embers. The Expo Feria de la Industria, an arts and crafts folk festival, is held in July. Religious and cultural celebrations are held in August during the Dia de la Virgen de la Asuncion. Independence Day falls on 15 May and features parades and dancing.
