Internal Transport
Air transport is the quickest and most efficient means of travelling around Pakistan, and there are a number of domestic flights between connecting Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Peshawar and Quetta.
There is an extensive rail network (much of it a legacy of British rule), although travel conditions may be hot and crowded. The main line runs from Karachi to Lahore (20 hours), Rawalpindi (28 hours) and Peshawar (32 hours), and there are other major routes with several daily trains.
The roads between cities tend to be badly lit and poorly maintained. Traffic drives on the left. Car hire is available at airports and in major cities; visitors are advised to keep doors and windows locked at all times when driving.
There are regular bus services running between most towns and villages, and there are also extensive bus services operating within Lahore, Karachi and other towns. However, taxis are by far the most efficient means of urban travel, as they are both widely available and reasonably priced. It's worth noting that services may not operate after sunset during Ramadan.
