Governorates and Regions

Oman is divided into four governorates (muhafazah) and five regions (mintaqat). These regions are subdivided into provinces (wilayat). The governorates and regions are as follows (main village of each is shown in brackets):

Governorates

• Masqat or Muscat (Seeb)
• Musandam (Khasab)
• Dhofar (Salalah)
• Al Buraymi (Al Buraymi)

Regions

• Ad Dakhiliyah (Nizwa)
• Al Batinah (Suhar)
• Al Wusta (Hayma)
• Ash Sharqiyah (Sur)
• Ad Dhahirah (Ibri)
