Culture & Etiquette

Africa's most populous nation, with a population of 120 million, Nigeria has more than 250 tribes - the principal ones being the Hausa, the Ibo (or Igbo) and the Yoruba. Generally, Nigerians have a very strong sense of ethnic allegiance.

It is unusual to be invited to a Nigerian's home, as most entertaining, particularly in Lagos, takes place in clubs or restaurants.

Women should dress modestly, particularly in the Muslim north, and should avoid wearing trousers.
