Local Media

All Nicaraguan newspapers are published in Spanish, and include dailies such as La Prensa and El Nuevo Diario, and the weekly Confidencial.

However, for most Nicaraguans, radio and TV are the main sources of news. Cable TV is available in most urban areas and there are several TV networks, including the state-owned Canal 6 and the commercial Televicentro Canal 2, Telenica Canal 8 and Nicavision Canal 12.

There are more than 100 radio stations, many of them in the capital. These include the government-owned Radio Nicaragua, the Sandinista-controlled Radio Sandino, and commercial stations such as Radio Corporacion, Radio Pirata and Radio Mundial.
