Internal Transport
There are regular air services from Casablanca airport to Marrakech, Tangier, Fès, Agadir, Ouarzazate, Dakhla and Oujda. There is also a rail network between major centres, which although is slightly limited, has cheap and regular services. Routes include Fès to Rabat and Casablanca; Kenitra to Rabat; and Casablanca to Marrakech. The European Inter-Rail pass is valid in Morocco.
Although car hire is somewhat expensive, there are numerous major hire companies in the main towns and cities. The major roads are all-weather, particularly in the north, whilst those in the interior, south of the High Atlas Mountains, are of poorer quality. This makes travel much more difficult, particularly in the winter.
The main towns and cities are connected by a wide variety of coach services, such as CTM, which covers the whole country, and SATAS, which runs between Casablanca, Agadir and south of Agadir. Towns and villages are often usually connected by regular and frequent buses; however, these can become very crowded, so it's worth buying a ticket in advance and turning up early to secure a seat. It is customary to tip the guard for loading luggage. Shared or private taxis may also be used to travel to areas outside towns; fares should be agreed before departure.
Travel within the towns may be carried out using buses (using pre-purchase tickets) or urban taxis (petits taxis), which have metered fares. Taxi drivers will expect a 10% tip.
