Moldova enjoys warm summers (20 to 23°C) from May to September, crisp, sunny autumns and cold, sometimes snowy, winters.

Visitors are advised to bring lightweight clothing in summer, with mediumweights, a thick coat and waterproof shoes for winter. A raincoat will also be useful.

Festivals

Winemaking is an important industry in Moldova, with the country producing more than 100 varieties of wine, some of them excellent. This fact is celebrated in autumn, during the two-day National Day of Wine and Wine Festival, on 13-14 October.

Other notable events include Independence Day, on 27 August, and Limba Nostra, the country's National Language Day on 31 August. The major events in the Orthodox Christian Church are also celebrated as public holidays.

Moldova is famous for its tradition of folk arts and there are many lively musical groups, known as Tarafs, which play a variety of rare folk instruments including the tsambal (not unlike a dulcimer) and the cimpoi (bagpipe). You maybe able to see such groups at folk festivals and other cultural events.
