Internal Transport

There are daily flights connecting Mauritius Airport (formerly known as Plaisance Airport) and Rodrigues, and there is also a boat that sails once a week to Rodrigues Island from Port Louis.

Car hire is readily available, and there is a good network of paved, if sometimes narrow, roads covering the island. There is also one major motorway running north to south. Speed limits are 80 kph (50 mph) on the motorway and 50 kph (31 mph) in built-up areas. Bicycles and motorbikes are also available for hire.

Metered taxis may be used within urban areas or to reach other parts of the island. Tips are not customary, but appreciated all the same. There are also numerous excellent bus and coach services on the island.
