Weather

Lithuania enjoys warm summers from May to August, although August also sees some heavy rainfall. There is mild weather in spring and autumn, and very cold winters from November to mid-March, when heavy snowfalls are common.

Festivals

Lithuania hosts a number of events. Some have a cultural or spiritual significance, others are just good fun. Independence Day, on 16 February, and the Restoration of Lithuania's Independence, on 11 March, are both public holidays. Other highlights include the Jazz Festival in Kaunas, a month of jazz events in April, and the classical music-themed Vilnius Festival, throughout June. During the International Folklore Festival (Skamba Skamba Kankliai) held in Vilnius Old Town in April/May, you can taste traditional dishes, visit craft fairs, join song and glee parties, listen to psalms, and have fun at the night of dances and various exhibitions. The capital also holds the colourful Vilnius Carnival in May/June, a ten-day event that first started in 2004.
