Internal Transport
There are 60 airfields for small aircraft. The railways are primarily used for mining goods and carry little other traffic.
Cars may be hired in Monrovia. However, many roads, particularly the more minor ones, are unpaved. There are main roads from Monrovia to Buchanan and from Monrovia to Sanniquellie with branches to Harper and Ganta. Difficulties in bridging river estuaries and bypassing lagoons often result in long delays and detours along the coast. There are no bus services between main towns.
Visitors may use the passenger boat service that runs between Monrovia and Buchanan. There is also a boat service that runs every week between Greenville and Harper. Smaller craft are often used for local transportation on Liberia's many rivers.
