Weather
Kyrgyzstan has a continental climate with an average of 247 sunny days a year and relatively little rainfall. Conditions vary according to location; it is sub-tropical in the south-west, dry in the north and west, and continental to polar in the mountainous east. Temperatures range between 20°C and 30°C from June to August, and from -20°C to -4°C in January. There is usually heavy snow in winter.

Festivals
Special events in Kyrgyzstan usually reflect Muslim holy days. These include Ramadan, the month of fasting, and Orozo Ait (Eid al-Fitr), the feast which marks the end of Ramadan. In the Spring, the festival of Nooruz, or New Days, is also celebrated. Other notable events include 7 January, the Russian Orthodox Christmas, and 31 August, Independence Day.
