Local Media

There are no English-language papers in Kazakhstan. However, there are two government-backed newspapers: Yegemen Qazaqstan (Kazakh-language) and Kazakhstanskaya Pravda (Russian-language), and a number of private papers, such as Ekspress-K (Russian-language), Nachnem s ponedelnika (Russian-language weekly), Zhas Alash (Kazakh-language), Liter, Karavan (weekly) and Vremya (opposition weekly).

The state runs two television channels: Kazakh TV, which broadcasts in Kazakh and Russian, and Eurasia TV, which rebroadcasts Russia's Channel One. Other channels include Channel 31 TV, Khabar TV, Kazakh Commercial TV (KTK) and the satellite channel, Caspionet.

Kazakh Radio is the state-owned station, which broadcasts in Kazakh and Russian. There are also a number of private radio stations, such as Europa Plus, Khabar Hit FM and Russkoye Radio-Aziya.
