Local Media

There are a number of English-language newspapers published in Japan, including The Mainichi Daily News, Yomiuri Shimbun, Nikkei Net, Asahi Shimbun and The Japan Times.

There are five national terrestrial TV companies in Japan, including the public broadcaster NHK, which operates the General TV and Educational TV channels, along with the satellite channels BS-1 and BS-2 and high-definition TV (HDTV) network Digital Hi-Vision. Other television networks include TV Asahi, Fuji TV, Nippon TV (NTV) and Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS).

NHK also runs national radio networks, such as the news-based Radio 1, cultural network Radio 2 and the classical music-based network FM Radio. Commercial radio stations include Inter FM, J-Wave, Tokyo FM and TBS Radio.
