Good Time to Visit
Weather
The landlocked position of Hungary gives a fairly extreme continental climate with a marked difference between summer and winter. Spring and autumn are mild, summers are hot and winters are very cold with snowfall. It is wettest in spring and early summer and fog is frequent during settled winter weather.
Visitors are advised to bring lightweight clothing in summer, mediumweights in spring, and heavier clothing in autumn and winter.

Festivals
Hungary's largest free summer festival runs from July to August and is known as 'Summer on Chain Bridge'. It's a display of Hungarian culture aimed to tempt foreign and domestic tourism. Likewise, 'Summer in Debrecen' runs during the same period and includes several events for theatre, wine, flowers, and culture. Elsewhere, a folklore festival takes place in August in Szazhalomhatta. Opera and ballet are performed in Budapest as part of the Budafest in July and August. Many other festivals run throughout the year.
