Getting There & Getting About

Internal Transport

There are a number of internal air services to some of the main towns, including Conakry, Boké, Kankan, Labé, Koundarg, Kissidougou and Siguiri. However, schedules are irregular.

Although there are a number of rail lines, there are currently no rail services in Guinea.

Roads throughout Guinea are generally in poor condition, and minor roads are often overgrown with bush. Although the roads between Conakry (via Kindia) and Kissidougou and from Boké to Kamsar are paved, travel on other roads is often impossible in the rainy season (June to November). Drivers should be aware that pedestrians and livestock often cause road hazards, so extra caution should be taken whilst driving at night. The Guinean Government also maintains roadblocks from 10pm to 6am in a bid to counter urban crime.

SOGETRAG, the Government bus company, operates comfortable and good value services from Conakry to most other towns. Bush or private taxis may also be used to travel between towns; fares should be negotiated in advance. Taxis and buses operate within Conakry itself; however, although they are cheap, they are poorly maintained and tend to be overcrowded.
