Local Media
Eritrea is the only African country to have no privately-owned news media, with the government closing down all private press in 2001 for "endangering national security". Newspapers include:
- Eritrea Profile - government-owned weekly (in English)
- Hadas Eritrea - government-owned, published 3 days a week (in English, Arabic and Tigrinya)
- Tirigta - pro-government youth weekly owned by ruling party
- Geled - weekly youth paper
There is one state-controlled TV station (Eri TV), and two state-run radio stations: Voice of the Broad Masses of Eritrea (Dimtsi Hafash), which operates two networks with programmes in 11 languages, and Radio Zara, an FM network.
