Climate

The country can be divided into three major climatic zones: the central highlands, the coastal region and the western lowlands.

The Highlands

May is the hottest month with temperatures reaching a high of 29°C (85°F), with the coolest months from December to February with lows of around 0°C (32°F), along with great variations between each day's high and low temperatures.

There are two raining seasons: the short rains in March and April and the main rainy season from late June to the beginning of September.

The Coast

There is a hot, dry desert strip along the Red Sea Coast, where the hottest months are from June to August when temperatures can reach 40°C (105°F). Although rain is rare in the southern part of this area, the northern coast experiences a rainy season from December to February.

The Lowlands

The western lowlands experience temperatures of up to 40°C (105°F) during the hottest months of April to June. Temperatures can fall to around 13°C (55°F) during the coolest month of December.
