Weather
The climate in East Timor is tropical and generally hot and humid, characterised by distinct rainy and dry seasons. It is very hot and dry from July to November with the western monsoon bringing the rains from December to March. It is cooler and more humid in the mountains.
Visitors are advised to bring lightweight clothing with waterproofs throughout the year. However, warmer clothing will be needed for mountain areas and for cool evenings.
Festivals
Festivals follow the Christian calendar, and other events follow new landmark dates in the new country - the most important being Independence Day on 20 May and Liberation Day on 20 September.
