Internal Transport

Roads and driving conditions in East Timor are very poor, with drivers advised to take extreme caution. Bus links are bad and the few buses that remain following the 1999 fighting are overcrowded and in poor technical shape. Car hire is available, but mountain bikes maybe a more viable form of transport outside of the capital.

Other forms of transport include mikrolets (mini-vans converted into people carriers), which are very cheap, and the weekly barge between Oekusi and Dili, which carries both freight and passengers.
