Internal Transport
The Czech Republic has an extensive domestic air service, with regular flights from Prague to Ostrava and Brno.
There are also regular rail services operating between Prague and main cities and resorts. The InterRail One-Country Pass offers travel for 3, 4, 6 or 8 days in one month within the Czech Republic. The Czech Flexipass is available to those who reside outside Europe, offering unlimited first or standard class train travel for 3 to 8 days in a 15-day period. Reduced fares may also be obtained by using an 'In-customer card', which is a photo pass valid for three years.
The extensive coach network is efficient and comfortable
The Czech Republic has a good network of first and second class roads, as well as a growing motorway network. Self-drive cars may be hired through international and local companies (minimum driving age is 18). Speed limits are 80 mph (130 kph) on motorways, 55 mph (90 kph) outside built-up areas and 31 mph (50 kph) in built-up areas. Anyone using the motorways must buy a vignette (a season ticket valid for 10 days, 1 month or 1 year).
Public transport within the cities is excellent. Prague has a metro service (5am to midnight), as well as tram and bus services. Night trams and buses run from midnight to 4.30am. Brno, Ostrava and other towns have a good bus, trolleybus and tram system. Metered taxis are also available in all the main towns; higher fares are charged at night.
