Colombia offers varied, Spanish influenced local cuisine. Specialities include:

  • ajiaco (chicken stew served with cream, corn on the cob and capers)
  • bandeja paisa (meat dish with cassava, rice, fried plantain and red beans)
  • cuchuco (a thick soup made from wheat, habas, potatoes, ribs and peas)
  • sancocho (a soup combining vegetables and meat or fish)

Particularly notable are the lobsters and seafood served on the Caribbean coast.

Different types of rum are produced; canelazo, a rum-based cocktail, is drunk hot or cold.
