Food & Drink
Regional Belarusian cooking is often based on potatoes, with mushrooms and berries as favourite side dishes. Other staple foods include pork, cabbages and bread. Because of traditional cooking methods in the pre-Soviet era, dishes are usually either slowly cooked or stewed. Belarusian borshch and filet de la Minsk are recommended. There is also a good selection of international and Russian cuisine available.
Drinks are also popular among the Belarusians, mostly Russian wheat vodka or kvass. Kvass is a type of soft drink that is made from either brown bread or rye flour that has been malted. Chai (black tea) is also popular, and coffee is available in most places.
