Visitors to Azerbaijan may find themselves the recipient of many gifts, so it's best to be prepared to reciprocate.

Local women, especially in rural areas, tend to be extremely retiring. They will serve a meal, but will seldom eat with foreign guests.

Foreign women are treated with elaborate courtesy, which can develop into excessive attention. It's advisable to dress modestly and adopt a coolness of mariner.
