Ulster University (Student Life)
Accommodation: Halls of residence (on 3 campuses). Many live on south side of Belfast (good services but rents high for only fair accommodation); good deal of reasonable accommodation at Coleraine; look in Belfast Telegraph, Coleraine Chronicle. Many students living at home.
Eating: OK if you like meat and 2 veg - not so good for vegetarians; meal £2.50-£4 on campus. Good value food (£1+ for veg burger & salad, £3+ Ulster try) at Giros, Maddens (Belfast), Rugworld (Derry).
Drinking: Uni bar cheapest (pint £1.70+). Good bars in the city.
Nightlife: Good social life on campus; wide range uni ents (bands incl The Advent, Pure Science, Luvbug); film club at Coleraine and Belfast. Also Belfast Empire; too many local clubs to mention.
Locals: Extremely friendly and helpful.
Sports: Excellent facilities at Jordanstown; sports centre at Magee; fitness suite at Coleraine; nothing at Belfast site.
Travel: Many offers and deals with Translink. Cheap taxis from city to Jordanstown site. Advise against hitching alone.
Financial help: Reasonable access funds; SU hardship fund.
Jobs: Union students part-time. Seasonal holiday work available in Coleraine; usual city work in Belfast and Derry - rates reasonable.
Informal name: UU.
Best features: Progressive, accountable union; multi-campus and wide student body.
Worst features: Geographical spread of campuses.
