Strathclyde University (Student Life)

Accommodation: Halls competitively priced. For accommodation off campus, look in Evening Times, West End post office, accommodation office.

Eating: All types of food in union, incl vegetarian or vegan. £2+ for meal on campus. Greggs also good (50p sausage roll).

Drinking: Cheapest drink in SU bars (from £1.70 a pint; promos every night). Various trendy yuppie bars in city. Most popular beer is Tennents; soft drink, Irn Bru.

Nightlife: Glasgow has a thriving music scene, mirrored in the union. Recently hosted Girls Aloud, Idlewild, Wheatus on campus. Glasgow Film Theatre (student discount) and Citizens Theatre/Trongate.

Locals: Loads of friendly locals, unless it's a Rangers/Celtic game! Some problem areas for students but it's a safe city centre.

Sports: Massive sports union with full facilities. Sports centres in central Glasgow tend to be private.

Travel: Bus, train and underground transcards fairly economical.

Annual living costs: The minimum amount students say you need to live on each year (covering all living expenses but excluding tuition fees) is £4500.

Financial help: University-run funds. Jobs: Variety of jobs in SU, bars etc. Off campus, work in bars, shops and many tourist-orientated businesses.

Best features: Location.

Worst features: Built on a hill.
