Accommodation: RGU flats (priority to first years and international students). For private accommodation, ask university or look in local paper, or one of many estate agents around city centre.

Eating: Meals and snacks on campus (eg Costa Coffee, pasta bar). Restaurants and takeaways to suit all tastes eg Chinese, Thai, Indian and Italian. Triple Kirks, Hogshead and Estaminet offer good value pub grub.

Drinking: Union has scandalously cheap drinks: create your own cocktail at the Basement; Under the Hammer for a shared bottle of wine in an intimate atmosphere; for the adventurous, Siberia has flavoured vodkas from cola to curry!

Nightlife: Venue for every musical taste: Liquid and Espionage (dance and chart music), Exodus (Indie), Moshulu (moshing). The Blue Lamp (live jazz), the Lemon Tree (bands of all kinds) and Dr Drakes for open mic nights. Locals: Friendly; with so many students, it's easy to make friends.

Sports: Many sports clubs eg football, rugby, badminton, snowsports, sailing, horse riding and rowing. RGU sports centre; numerous sports facilities in Aberdeen eg new Garthdee sports and alpine adventure park (short walk from Garthdee campus).

Travel: University shuttle bus between city centre and Garthdee campuses (7 days for £3). Student travel agency on site.

Jobs: Variety of part-time and vacation jobs available. RGU careers centre gives help.
