St John's (Student Life)

Accommodation: College accommodation for all undergrads (excellent by national standards). Married flats 200 metres away. Fairly easy to get vacation residence for academic work, with some financial help.

Eating: Cheap food in hall (3-course dinner £2.70), with veggie options; bar food. Takeaway pizza at Ask (£4).

Drinking: Sub-pub prices in college bar (pint from £1.60); the Lamb & Flag next door.

Nightlife: In college, great black-tie dinners, bops, karaoke, women's garden party, ball every 3-4 years. Out of college, lots: rock and jazz (OUJA) bands; Park End and Zodiac clubs etc.

Sports: Well-equipped gym in college, also croquet lawn and squash courts; sportsground 1 mile, boat club.

Travel: 'Special' grants available.

Financial help: Book grant for everyone; hardship fund for those in unexpected financial difficulties. Support funds for those who pay less than 50% of their tuition fees.

Jobs: Work in term time forbidden (except for college or university); about 5% do (hard to fit in as workload heavy). About 75% find some sort of work in holidays, mostly at home rather than at Oxford.

Best features: Sociable atmosphere.
