Founded: 1314; women undergraduates first admitted 1979. First of ancient colleges to elect woman as its Rector (Head) in 1993.

Admission: Undergraduates admitted for all subjects apart from archaeology & anthropology, biological sciences, experimental psychology, geography, human sciences, metallurgy, oriental studies, PPP and theology.

Scholarships: Scholarships and exhibitions awarded for meritorious work during undergraduate courses; organ and choral scholarships available.

Study abroad: Language, and some law, students study abroad for a year.

Travel grants: Generous provision from endowed funds for both academic and general travel.

Library & IT facilities: 35,000 books on open shelves; also similar number of antiquarian books and manuscripts. Library open 24 hours a day in term time. Separate IT service, access 24 hours/day. Ratio 1:17 workstations to students. 20 points with access to library and internet. IT support from up to 5 staff. All new students given introduction to IT facilities; regular surgery sessions by student computing assistants; IT skills courses run by university computing services.

Eating arrangements: Self-service breakfast and lunch, and served dinner available in early 17th-century hall daily throughout term; cost approx £5.50 per day. Some self-catering facilities.

Gate/guest hours: All members have late keys. No guests allowed between 2 and 8 am unless they have been booked in overnight.

Other college facilities: Bar, sports clubs, playing field, boathouse and multi-gym. College chapel choir (women and men), participation encouraged by generous choral scholarships.

Accommodation: Nearly all undergraduates offered 3 or 4 years' residence in college-owned accommodation (usually all who do not want to live out). All first years live on the main college site and some can live in college for their final year; most charged £1700-£1900 pa. No first degree students live at home.

Term-time work: College only allows term time employment in exceptional circumstances.

Hardship fund: Well-endowed fund administered by the Rector and Tutors' Committee.
