Accommodation: University halls; private housing through local letting agency.
Eating: SU coffee shop in main building, refectories on campus. Church Street fast food; Vicarage Street, good food incl vegetarian. Plenty of chip shops, kebab, chinese and indian (veggie curry, Leagrave Road).
Drinking: SU bar cheapest (£1 a pint). Pubs generally cater for students eg The Park (It's a Scream), The Stop (Whitbread).
Nightlife: SU has band nights with local and national talent, a variety of shows, weekly quiz nights. SU nightclub (Sub-Club) cheapest and safest; student nights at local nightclubs.
Locals: Averagely friendly. Students tend to avoid Moor Path and Bury Park for safety reasons; town centre is well lit but nobody should walk home alone at night.
Sports: University uses Vauxhall facilities (1/2 mile away) gym to playing fields for tennis, rugby, football etc. Many private gyms and leisure complexes; swimming pool 20-minute walk from university.
Travel: Town centre site so mostly walking; local transport good and student discount.
Annual living costs: The minimum amount students say you need to live on each year (covering all living expenses but excluding tuition fees) is £6000-£6500.
Financial help: Very good. Hardship fund and hardship loans available.
Jobs: Job shop has local and national vacancies, in and out of term. Work in SU allows shifts to work round teaching.
