Accommodation: University halls of residence: £100 per week in Ralph West Halls (catered). Private accommodation, look in Loot, on noticeboards and accommodation office; expect to pay £100 pw for place in shared house.

Eating: Cafeteria (meal for £2.50+). Try the bowling alley on the top of the shopping centre. Drink: A handful of pubs locally: Prince Albert (off London Road), Bar Room Bar (opposite the grounds of the Imperial War Museum with excellent heated rooftop terrace and two for one pizza and cocktail deals).

Nightlife: University SU runs parties and regular bar events; bar football, Sky sports. And there's London.

Locals: Mixed; large housing estates not good for students. You have to keep your wits about you when walking around alone (but that is London in every area).

Sports: Swimming pool, multigym next door.

Travel: No travel scholarships. Travel in London cheaper with student card.

Financial help: Access fund; hardship loans.

Jobs: Plenty of part-time work in London. Tutors can sometimes help (good contacts). SU bar, restaurants, NFT and various other cinemas, retail (weekend hours easier than bar work). Best features: It's big, yet friendly.

Worst features: Lack of interaction between courses.
