Accommodation: Expensive and difficult to find; minimum rent around £2000 pa for uni acommodation, £2750 pa in private (plus bills) - help from accommodation office.

Eating: From veggie burgers to a la carte - places for all walks of life, eating habits and pockets. £2.50 for a meal on campus; £5-ish at Hobgoblin and Pizza Hut (50% off on Monday nights). Schwartz Burgers, Los Iguana, Tapas Bar.

Drinking: Good real ales, BX, Buttcombe, Eldridge Pope. Excellent pubs with atmosphere and frequent offers: Hobgoblin, Litten Tree, The Porter Bar, The Boater. SU bars cheap (£1.70 a pint).

Nightlife: Venues for all tastes. Student nights in town (Mondays, Thursdays); good night at union (Wednesdays, Fridays) mostly local and college bands. Moles nightclub; good student cinema deals at Robins; gigs at the Uni and BSUC; much jazz, rock, pop and classics - Bristol 9 miles away.

Locals: Very friendly. Most students live in Oldfield Park (very few problems).

Sports: College teams play on a regular basis. Bath leisure centre, with pool, squash and tennis.

Travel: Orange buses link Bath Uni and BSUC. Student rate passes available.

Financial help: Access fund.

Jobs: Lots of part-time jobs in bars on and off campus and arranged through Job Shop. 25% get paid work in term-time, 60% out of term-time.

Best features: Small friendly situation.

Worst features: Distance from the city. Informal name: Bath Spa. Good news: Newton Park bar refurbished.
