Packing Equipment and Books

Computers, Audio and Video Equipment

  • Items should be secured for transit in accordance with the manufacturers' instructions.
  • Move in the original packaging if possible.

Kitchen Appliances

  • Cookers, washing machines, refrigerators, freezers and dishwashers should all be disconnected before moving day.
  • The drums of washing machines must be secured with the proper brackets to avoid damage.
  • Refrigerators and freezers should be washed and dried thoroughly to avoid unpleasant odours.
  • If they're going into storage, wedge the doors open to allow air to circulate and tape them in place.

Books

  • Dust books as you take them down from the shelves.
  • Stand books of similar sizes on their sides, no higher than to make a cube.
  • Wrap each stack in bubble wrap, seal with masking tape, and fit the books on their sides into a tough box.
  • Don't force books in.
  • Only part-fill large boxes, otherwise they will be too heavy.
  • Pack odd spaces with crumpled paper or packing beans.
  • Pack light things, such as pillows or duvets, on top.
