Preparing Your New Home

If you have planned it right, you may have some time between taking over a new home and actually moving in. This will give you time to get your new home ready and to have any necessary work done before you move in. It is always much easier to work on an empty house.

Cleaning

Whether you do it yourself or hire the professionals to do it for you, an empty house is far simpler to clean than a full one.

Decorating

It is much less hassle to decorate before you move in, as you don't have to worry about rearranging rooms or putting dust covers on everything. If you've decided to get new carpets, make sure you do all your decorating before they are fitted.

Improvements

You might have decided to install new windows, refurbish the bathroom or upgrade the kitchen. You may have even decided to convert the loft or add a conservatory or an extension. Even relatively simple jobs such as sanding floorboards, laying carpets or getting existing carpets professionally cleaned are far easier when your house is empty.

Renovation and Repairs

Your survey may have brought to light a number of issues that either you (or your lender) want to get fixed as soon as possible. This might include fixing the roof, rewiring, new plumbing or eradication of damp. The ideal time to get this work done is before you move in, as it means that you won't have to cope with living on a building site.
